Alita partners with Facebook Connectivity to Expand Fiber Optic connectivity in Indonesia

Jakarta, 12 March 2020 – Alita partners with Facebook Connectivity to build fiber optic infrastructure in Indonesia. Alita’s partnership with Facebook underpins its commitment to bringing better internet services to the region by improving connectivity for more than 10 million people in Indonesia.

This infrastructure will improve capacity and the geographical reach of internet access to people and places currently underserved, and also lead to more affordable services for end consumers. The investment is also in line with the Government programs to enhance digital inclusion through infrastructure and complements the Palapa Ring.

Tom Varghese, Public Policy Manager, Connectivity and Access Policy for APAC at Facebook explained that Facebook Connectivity looks for opportunities to collaborate with local partners such as Alita to build internet infrastructure. “We believe that fiber backhaul builds are an essential part of bringing more people online to a faster internet,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer of PT Alita Praya Mitra, Teguh Prasetya explained that the support from Facebook Connectivity will help Alita build 3,000km of fiber to expand high-speed internet on a national scale to Bali, Java, Sumatera, and Sulawesi.

Alita is a neutral network infrastructure network provider company with a national license for building private networks. With an increasing demand for faster speeds and more stable connections, fiber optic networks are a primary need for Cellular Operators to deliver high-quality services and deliver next-gen 5G in Indonesia.

“We are focusing on building fiber optic across these provinces to help operators, internet service providers, and other service providers deliver world-class connectivity to our people,” Teguh said.

Today, Alita owns more than 3,000km of fiber optic cables across 40 cities in 6 provinces, such as Denpasar, Bandung, Cilegon, Cirebon, Malang, Manado, Semarang, Serang, Solo, Surabaya and Tegal.

Alita and the Facebook company will invest in greater availability and more efficient deployment of fiber backhaul in Indonesia. Alita will wholly own, build, maintain, and operate the green field fiber network and provide wholesale capacity to MNOs and ISPs. Facebook will support the fiber build and network planning.

Teguh added, “With this partnership, we can support 56 cities in 8 provinces by the end of 2021. Alita will continue developing telecommunication access network infrastructure to meet the needs of telco service providers and ICT across Indonesia.”
